Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra Opens Season with Masterworks I
FEATURING WORLD-RENOWNED PIANIST JANINA FIALKOWSKA

The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (WCO), led by Maestro Andrew Sewell, will open its Masterworks series of concerts with guest pianist Janina Fialkowska on October 5, 2007, at 8 p.m. This performance marks the beginning of the WCO’s third full season in Overture Center’s newly renovated Capitol Theater. The program will include Arensky’s Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major and Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in E-flat Major.

The exceptional artistry and brilliant virtuosity of Janina Fialkowska have won her enthusiastic accolades from audiences and critics worldwide. Celebrated for her interpretations of classical and romantic repertoire, she is particularly distinguished as one of the great interpreters of the piano works of Chopin and Liszt. She has performed with the foremost North American orchestras and with all of the principal Canadian orchestras as well as guest artist with such prestigious orchestras as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, the Halle Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, and many others. After successful surgery to remove cancer in her left arm in 2002, Ms. Fialkowska later underwent a rare muscle-transfer procedure. After 18 months of performing the Ravel and Prokofiev “Concertos for the Left Hand” which she transcribed for her right hand, she resumed her two-handed career with a tremendously successful and highly emotional recital held in Germany in January 2004.

Concert tickets are $19, $35, $55, and $62, with discounts for seniors, students and youth. To purchase single tickets for this and other WCO concerts, contact the Overture Center Box Office at 608-258-4141 or visit www.overturecenter.com.

A pre-concert dinner and talk will be held in Overture Center’s Wisconsin Studio before the concert. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the evening’s program from Maestro Sewell. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $32 for adults and $15 for youth. Reservations may be made by contacting the WCO at (608) 257-0638 before Monday, October 1, 2007.
